Samy Rio's Bambou range includes a hairdryer and a loudspeaker
Bamboo , Devices , Experiment
Awarded the Grand Prix at Design Parade 10, french product designer Samy Rio’s Bambou range is truly innovative. Rio was looking for a sustainable recyclable alternative to plastic and metal normally used in industrial production for electronic devices. He experimented with bamboo, a strong and highly resistant material, to find out its technical and plastical capabilities. He even built his own machine to process the wood so that it can be used in applications with no precedent. The findings were summed up in two prototypes, one hairdryer and a bluetooth loudspeaker.
The results are not only 100% functional, but the bamboo gives them a luxurious touch. Besides the aesthetic drive, Rio’s main design principle was to create devices that work just like their regular versions, meaning that they are easy to assemble, repair if needed, and have a long life. Both the loudspeaker and the hairdryer are fully operable and are intended for semi-industrial production.
