Jeremy Wintrebert’s hand-blown glass works
Paris born designer Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert , who although was raised on the west coast of Africa, now spends his life between the USA and France. He makes the most of his multinational background by working on a variety of handmade glass pieces influenced by numerous places and cultures. Having been brought up in a creative environment, the artist encountered traditional crafts at the early stage of his life, which set off his passion for handmade pieces. Since his discovery of the art of glassblowing at the age of 19, he has continued working in this domain.
Before establishing his name in the art world, Wintrebert struggled to find a market for his work for a few years. Creating pieces that lay somewhere between art and design, his work was said to be suitable neither for the art galleries, nor for the design stores.
His artistic career kicked off when he produced a piece for the Maxalto boutique window display. Since then, he has worked on a number of commissions and individual orders. Recently his work was displayed at two places during the 2014 London Design Festival. One of his projects, the Clouds, which was on show at the Fumi Gallery, relates to his childhood memories. The cloud like shapes filled with soft light are playful and delicate.
