Fornasetti designs limited edition watch for Huawei
Piero Fornasetti’s iconic illustrations and technology meet for the first time in history, in the form of a wristwatch. Piero’s son, Barnaba, has worked together with Chinese tech giant Huawei to transfer the famous image of opera singer Lina Cavalieri to a surprisingly new surface of application. Working so far with more traditional carriers like porcelain objects and furniture pieces, Piero set out for the project from a more classical starting point. Inspired by an existing wall clock featuring the same drawing, he dreamt up an analogue watch which utilizes technology in a playful way.
Following the certain time of day, Lina’s face is either dormant at night, or wide awake during the day. Besides the face of the watch, the straps also recall a Fornasetti classic: the malachite pattern brings in movement and a bit of colour to make the watch fashion-compatible. Which is a well-funded desire, as the piece was commissioned by Vogue China, who will hand out the limited 1000 pieces to the VIP guests of their party at Milan Fashion Week.
