Études Studio's new Marais store is calm and coordinated
The Études shop at 14 rue Debelleyme is a cleverly designed and flawlessly executed study in minimalism. Being a boutique creative studio, Études is perfectly in synch with today's trends and tendencies, and they managed to incorporate them into their retail concept with maximum integrity. White surfaces dominate the interior, periodically broken up by rectangles made from variations of concrete. The steel rod running through the store lends to the brutally minimal and cold feel of the store, while also being the functional backbone of the clothing display rack.
The cold, hard surfaces are offset by the smoky grey sheets of glass, serving as separators on the rack. Moreover, the aforementioned steel rod motions towards a large mirror at the end of the space, cleverly extending it, all while being a functional necessity. Ready-to-wear clothing is on the right side, while the left side is home to various accessories and select Études projects.
As every good designer, the Études team knows that decoration is merely an afterthought. A well-designed space should be able to speak for itself without supplementing visual stimuli. In this vein, they opted to forego most decorating pieces, save for a picture of a pigeon and a bouquet of flowers. Their clothing line - somewhere between streetwear and classic men's clothing - becomes part of the composition, with a strong, considered color palette that provides great contrast to the light-colored materials.
