David Adjaye introduces Prism lounge series for Knoll
David Adjaye has finished off his Washington Collection for Knoll with introducing the Prism set. The lounging series consist of a chair, an ottoman, and a side table, all following the same geometrical design aesthetic. This latest addition balances out the rest of the Washington venture: in contrast with the British architect’s featherweight, suspended Skeleton and Skin chairs, introduced back in 2013, Prism is all about weight and monumental presence. Unlike the cantilevered previous chair designs, the seating of the new line is a monolithic, sculptural piece that looks like it has been carved out from a single piece of stone. As a result, the furniture looks rather like an object piece that is equally spectacular from all angles.
Besides the prism-like shape, this striking quality is due to the interplay of contrasting surfaces. The sides of each piece are covered with shiny laminate either in red, white, or black colours. For the chair it is paired with matte-finished fabric or leather upholstery, while the table can be ordered with 5 different, muted marble tops. The complete Washington Collection, featuring old and new design, is available to order from Knoll.
