Bold is a typography-inspired wall clock by Normann
Normann Copenhagen, the flagship studio and retailer of minimalist and functional Scandinavian design, released a simple wall clock called Bold. The brand usually known for their high functional and aesthetic furniture pieces likes to involve some mundane-looking everyday objects in their line to keep things real, and provide a compact design solution for their customers.
The Bold clock fits in nicely with the fuss-free design of the rest of their collection, each piece still telling about the character of the particular designer. In case of Bold, it is pretty much obvious that its creator is rooted in graphic arts. Swedish Jonas Wagell took a typographic approach and was inspired by the lettering’s bold option that makes texts stand out and attracts the eye. Though regular in diameter, the clock looks oversized with is plump, rounded shapes.
Bringing in this kind of softness was necessary for loosening up the strict minimalism of the design. Following industrial design aesthetics, Wagell stripped down the clock to the absolutely necessary elements, the clock-face and the two clock-hands. What was born is an essential, iconographic object, that reflects Wagell’s and Normann’s plain and honest design ethos. Bold is available in 3 colour combinations from now on, and its friendly price-tag will make it an ideal present for your more design-conscious loved ones.
