Sono Arhitekti install passive prefab family house in Wiener Neustadt
Slovenian Sono Arhitekti designed a sample house for Lumar IG, a manufacturer specialised in low-energy, passive prefabricated buildings. Set up in a show park for pre-fab houses in Wiener Neustadt, Sono’s Musterhaus stands out amongst the traditional gable-roofed, wooden-clad family homes. The house has a cubic, minimal, yet dynamic form that changes shape depending on the viewpoint.
The two-storied building features a spacious living room on the ground floor, that is well-lit thanks to the huge glass windows letting natural light in. The upper floor is more intimate, housing two bigger and two smaller sleeping rooms with adjacent bathrooms. The two levels are connected by a prominent, precisely designed staircase. Its careful geometry is otherwise very much characteristic of the whole building both interior- and exterior-wise.
From the outside, the house is covered with large white format panels, slightly reminiscent of tiles but resulting in an overall more contemporary and futuristic outlook. Their square shape is repeated on the inside walls on the gallery and also appears in the shape and proportions of the furniture. The strict cubic geometry is counterbalanced by the use of natural materials like wood and glass. Black and white dominate the interior that is also muted down by the wood’s natural colour and the infusion of natural light. with this Musnterhaus, Sono Arhitekti managed to bring in their trademark minimalis-yet-natural aesthetics into the field of prefab houses.
