Sliding House offers different changeable spaces, enlargement of shelter, sunlight protection and views. It is a statement against static architecture.
The house system has the ability to alter the overall building composition and character according to season, weather or a remote-controlled desire to delight.
From outside it looks like three conventional building forms. It is a linear building of apparent simplicity, where three programmes take parts: the house, the garage and the annexe. Each slice is defined by material and colour; red rubber membrane and glass, red and black stained larch.
The surprise comes when the separated forms are transformed by a wall and roof enclosure, which travels alongs the site creating combinations of indoor space, open-air living and framing of views according to position.
This is an autonomous structure made of steel, timber, insulation and unstained larch spanning recessed railway tracks. Hidden electric motors power it, and it moves on wheels that integrated into the wall thickness. The tracks offer the possibility of being extended in order to be an occasional shelter for a future swimming pool.
