MultiAdaptor's semi-online notebook connects to Think With Google
Branding consultancy MultiAdaptor chose an innovative way to promote Google’s tool Think With Google that matches the company’s data-led and future-oriented approach. Originally commissioned to design and exhibition, the agency rather came up with an interactive, partly analogue, partly digital notebook that connects to the Think… website and provides an effective tool for browsing content.
Think With Google was launched in 2013 by the company itself, intended to provide marketing professionals with articles, infographics, researches, data visualisation, and case studies based on content trends. Taking a peek behind Google’s workings is every marketer’s dream; the tech giant, however, is quite secretive of its mechanisms. For this reason, any kind of platform where Google is sharing insider information is a real goldmine for professionals trying to promote businesses online.
To demonstrate how navigation among the website’s abundant content works, MultiAdaptor worked together with industrial designer Roland Ellis to create a tool that can be used in a digital as well as traditional way. Ellis developed a conductive bookbinding glue, that was used to attach an Arduino circuit board to printed pages without any need of cables or other minute electric parts. This way the notebook is compact and simple, looking identical to the ‘originals’.
Conductive ink was also applied to the pages, making them operational even with a simple graphite pencil. To active the digital function, the notebook-device has to be plugged into a desktop with the cable provided. Users have to tick two options from a list of statements in the notebook, which will then guide them to relevant content on the website.
Afterwards, they have the option of either saving or sharing their results listed under the ‘my edit’ tab, then ‘tear’ the page and start a new search according to their current marketing issue. If not in use for digital purposes, the notebook can be used offline, as a traditional surface of preserving ideas for later, and for good.
