Identity by YNL Design for Remicone's ice cream laboratory van
Branding , Retail , Food , Korea
If branding-wise we match the idea of a candy store with the Far East, what usually unfolds in our minds is a gleeful and unashamedly cutesy picture of pastel colours and sweet emoji-like characters. Korean ice cream parlour Remicone partially follows this imagery, but mutes down the mellow cavalcade of soft and sweet creams by bringing in an unexpectedly sterlie analogy to its concept.
While the exterior takes a direct (and more classical) reference to traditional ice cream vans, the rest of the branding elements are reminiscent of a scientific laboratory. The sweets and the accessories are all served in beakers, droppers, test-tubes and other similar containers normally used in a medical environment.
The metaphor becomes quite self-explanatory if we look at the serving concept of the store: customers are free to compose their own cups, led by a step-by-step guide. This way they are experimenting with tastes, textures, and proportions, just like researchers of natural sciences do. The branding concept built by local YNL Design also includes label-stickers that appear on everything from containers to serviettes and feature the ‘laboratory van’ of cold pleasures.
