Design and gastronomy meet once again in MENÜ2 cookbook
Debuting exactly a year ago, super-hip MENÜ was the must-buy cookbook of the festive season. We say cookbook, but the label covers much more than that: with exquisite photography and graphics, it was also an exercise in artful publishing, and more importantly, an exciting enumeration of the creative and gastronomical makers of the Budapest scene.
The idea behind the venture was simple but genius: to introduce the city’s diverse, artsy faces through a common passion: food. Fashion designers, agency gurus, artists, curators, and other creative minds shared their favourite recipes, specialities, kitchen hacks, and gastronomical pursuits in a tastefully edited publication, that, after its release, was eventually sold out just in a few days.
Seeing the immense success of MENÜ, coming up with a second volume was an obvious and inevitable step from the editors’ part. However, the team did not simply set out for a mere repetition, but stepped up their game by broadening their geographical scope. With a newly found countryside and foreign focus, they spent half a year on the road, visiting creative expats from Tel Aviv through Barcelona to small Hungarian villages.
Looking for inspiration outside Budapest is both enlightening and entertaining, presenting the possibilities of another life to the reader through new gastronomical adventures. Just like the first edition, MENÜ 2 was born through the collaboration of photographer Balázs Glódi, graphic designer Eszter Laki, and Kamilla Mihály, who was responsible for turning the interviewee’s thoughts into an enjoyable read.
After its debut night this Tuesday, the book is now available in Budapest cool-spots including cafés, concept stores, eateries, and studios. For more info, visit the project’s website, but better be quick, as surely the books will be all gone before Christmas.
