BVD redesigns Vitra packaging
Vitra is without doubt one of the leading furniture manufacturers of the world, distributing well-loved icons designed by the likes of Herman Miller, Charles & Ray Eames, Hella Jongerius, and Jasper Morrison, just to name a few from their endless list. No wonder that their line is inspirational not only for product designers, but for anyone working on a creative field as well.
Thus, when Stockholm-based agency BVD was commissioned to design packaging for Vitra furniture and interior accessories, the team felt both honoured and extremely energised. As self-confessed quiet admirers of the company, they couldn’t wait to wrap up Vitra’s credo of functionality, simplicity, and durability into a cardboard form.
Reflecting on the brand’s sense of aesthetics and reliance on craftsmanship, BVD used an uncoated, unbleached cardboard to form the boxes, and adorned it with charming yet almost symbolic illustrations referencing their content. Just like the products they carry, the boxes themselves were designed with maximum functionality in mind, to ensure safe storage, easy transport and seamless unload. The packaging line is complemented by a set of matching pouches and cards of authenticity, operating with an updated Futura typeset for a light-hearted, modern overall effect.
