Stockholm Design Week 2015
It’s that time of the year again when Stockholm becomes the buzzing capital of the design world for a week. The Stockholm Design Week opens its gates 2nd February, and lasts all week until the 8th. During this time, the Nordic city plays host to a plethora of exhibitions, product showings and networking events concerning the design industry. The largest scale event is undoubtedly the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and hundreds of exhibiting brands every year.
Silje Nesdal is a Norwegian furniture designer and interior architect, who also studied textile design at Oslo University. She does not only have an impressive and diverse educational background, but her inspirations come from many different angles such as the Western Fjords of Norway, as well as Japanese and Finnish designers. She creates furniture using simple shapes and traditional materials. Her storage system Linkki is crafted from wood and aluminium, and gives the user a certain freedom with its multiple ways of assembly.
Glimpt is a group of designers with a different approach to their work. They want to get inspired by “real people who work with real things, who struggle with real life”. They visit different cultures and collaborate with local artists and craftsmen. Their Superheroes series of furniture combines Scandinavian design with Vietnamese craftsmanship.
Universo Positivo’s furniture is defined by clean lines, Nordic simplicity and subtle pops of color. Mostly comprised of wood and metal, their aesthetic is timeless, which allows their furniture to fit into virtually any context.
The design that captured our imagination most from Mattias Stenberg’s portfolio is the Carry On seat. Designed as a portable seating solution, it’s a colorful, rounded stool with a pigmented oak handle for easy transportation, fully upholstered with fabric or leather. It also stacks onto itself, which makes it very easy to store and it exudes flexibility and playfulness, giving character to any interior.
