Salone del Mobile – Why does it matter?
Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano, also known as the Milan Furniture Fair around the globe is the largest design-related trade expo in the world. Contrary to its name, it’s not actually in the city of Milan, rather a little town on its outskirts, called Rho.
Come April, the pavilions are filled to the brim with the wares of designers and manufacturers from all over the five continents. The Salone attracts some 1300 exhibitors and more than 300,000 visitors annually, so flowing through the passeggiata with thousands of well-dressed industry peers is just a regular day at the fair.
Alternating yearly, the furniture fair is also accompanied by either Eurocucina, the worldwide expo for kitchen-related wares, or Euroluce, the lighting exhibition. Even years are all about the kitchens, while the uneven years are illuminated by the millions of innovative lighting solutions on display.
