Each year there is a nomination: 'the designer of the year' prize. In 2015, this award goes to Nendo, the Japanese studio led by Oki Sato, who estabilished a unique approach within all fields of design from graphics, interior, furniture and even industrial design. Last year he debuted on Maison&Objet Paris with his rain bottle installation, wherelse this year he is melting chocolate!
In 2014 M&O's theme was ‘Words’, therefore asked the designers to consider the relationship between language and design. Nando "chose the word ‘rain’, but considered its many nuances in Japanese, a language that has dozens of words for rain depending on the condition and time of day, as a way to reflect the fine nuances and sensibilities of Japanese as a language. The exhibit consists of clear acrylic bottles lined-up, each containing a different kind of ‘rain’. ’Kirisame’, ‘biu’ and ‘kosame’ refer to different degrees of fine drizzle, while ‘niwaka-ame’ is a sudden downpour. ‘Mizore’ is sleet, and a ‘yudachi’ falls in the evening. ‘Kisame’ is rain that drips from the ends of tree branches, and ‘kaiu’ is rain that falls mixed with dust and pollen."
There is another prize in the event, the “Talents á la Carte” which is highlighting six designers. One of the winners is a mexican duo called Paul Roco, who focuses on woodwork on large-scale. Their product line consist of mainly furniture and acessories. One of our favourite is Greta the lamp that reminds us of a hand grenade just after exploding.
Of course by being France's favourite interior show, you should find plenty of ideas and items for you living room wishlist. Including Softline Denmark's innovative furniture.
