In orbit by Tomás Saraceno
Tomás Saraceno In orbit at Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, K21 Ständehaus in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Visitors can move freely between the steel wire construction on three different levels which encompasses 2500m2 suspended more than 25 metres above the piazza of the K21. The installation represents a surreal landscape which is a reminiscent of a sea of clouds.
The floating spatial configuration becomes an oscillating network of relationships, resonances and synchronous communication when several people enter this installation. Their presence sets the installation into motion while obtaining a possibility of co-ordinating their activities within the space, which leads to a new hybrid form of communication.
Tomás Saraceno has planned in orbit over the period of three years in collaboration with engineers, architects and biologists to set up his most elaborate installation to date.
The Curators of the exhibition are Marion Ackermann and Susanne Meyer-Büser. The Head of Engineering Department is Bernd Schliephake.
