Dusen Dusen & Visual Magnetics teamed up for fun, interactive wall mural
Dusen Dusen, the textile studio known for bold, graphic prints, collaborated with Visual Magnetics for a unique, interactive wall mural. Presented at WantedDesign, a satellite event of the NYC X Design Week, the installation featured the design arrangement of studio head Ellen Van Dusen, that could be freely altered by visitors. As Dusen said, she simply replicated her design process on a larger scale, which consists of moving along cut-out shapes until it all falls into place into an organically harmonic composition. She used gradient forms on a gradient background so that the achieved unity would be kept even when visitors intervene. The overall outlook reflects Dusen Dusen’s colourful, geometry-driven ‘80s aesthetics, while it also demonstrates the versatility and flexibility of Visual Magnetics products.
The installation utilised pieces from their Dynamic Spaces collection, a new set of materials including magnetic dry erase and textile wall coverings. The company, specialising in magnetic design for walls, invented a multi-layered system consisting of a magnetic primer, flexible magnetic tiles, and magnetic-receptive surface, available in 20+ finishes. Additionally, special dimensional objects like shelves and frames can also be attached. Visual Magnetic products are suitable for a variety of applications from public institutions through offices to home interiors, and their flexibility allows for endless, singular design possibilities. Working mainly for order to create custom designed and printed solutions, the Dynamic Spaces collection includes a range of pre-set patterns, while it is also suitable for designer collaborations, like the Dusen Dusen one.
